Reconstitution & Measurement Math
Calculating concentration and draw volume for research protocols.
Accurate research measurements come down to two simple calculations: concentration and draw volume.
Concentration
Concentration = vial amount ÷ water added. Example: 10 mg of peptide reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg per mL.
Draw volume
To measure a target research amount, divide it by the concentration. Example: at 5 mg/mL, a 0.25 mg research amount is 0.05 mL — five units on a standard 100-unit syringe.
A tip
Choosing a round concentration such as 5 mg/mL makes every later measurement easier and reduces error.
