Reconstituting Research Peptides

A step-by-step handling guide for lyophilized research peptides.

Lyophilized (freeze-dried) research peptides must be reconstituted into solution before use in the lab. The process is simple, but a few handling details protect the peptide and keep your measurements accurate.

What you will need

  • Your lyophilized peptide vial
  • Bacteriostatic water (the standard research diluent)
  • A sterile syringe and needle
  • Alcohol prep swabs

Step-by-step

  1. Decide your target concentration for the study, and calculate the water volume from the vial amount.
  2. Swab the stoppers of both the peptide vial and the bacteriostatic water vial.
  3. Draw the calculated volume of bacteriostatic water into the syringe.
  4. Add the water slowly, letting it run down the inside wall of the peptide vial — never squirt it directly onto the powder.
  5. Swirl gently to dissolve. Do not shake; agitation can degrade the peptide.
  6. Once fully clear, label and store refrigerated.

A note on dilution math

Concentration equals the vial amount divided by the water volume you add. For example, adding 2 mL of bacteriostatic water to a 10 mg vial gives 5 mg per mL. Choosing a round concentration makes later measurement easier.

Storage after reconstitution

Keep the reconstituted vial refrigerated and protected from light. Bacteriostatic water contains a preservative that supports multi-draw storage over a limited window — see our cold-chain guide for timelines.
