What Is Bacteriostatic Water?
The standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilized research peptides.
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing a small amount of benzyl alcohol (about 0.9%). The preservative inhibits bacterial growth, which is what allows a reconstituted vial to be stored and drawn from over time in a research setting.
What makes it bacteriostatic
The benzyl alcohol does not sterilize — it suppresses bacterial growth. That distinction is why bacteriostatic water supports multi-draw storage, while plain sterile water is single-use.
Why it is used for peptides
Lyophilized peptides need a gentle diluent that keeps the solution stable across repeated study draws. Bacteriostatic water is the laboratory standard for exactly this reason.
Storage
Keep both unopened and reconstituted vials refrigerated and away from light, and note the date of first draw for your records.
